Overview of the Project (5 parts)

1

Problem Statement

Traveling has been improved within the last decade dramatically moving from physical maps to mobile services such as Google and Apple Maps. Although improved, using a mobile device while traveling can still be dangerous as one has to constantly check their device to follow the directions by causing them to become distracted. These distractions can include looking down at their device, trying to interact with the service to change routes/destination, or needing to hold their device giving them less mobility.

Goals

Main Project Goal

Reduce the number of distractions users experience while traveling

Features Included:

  • Mobile device connects to glasses (to connect with app)

  • Audio directions

  • Voice command

  • Tappable features (turn directions on/off)

3

Design Process

A series of steps were taken in order to get to the final design. This includes conducting research on which gadget to design for (all the features to account for), developing goals and user base, learning about existing competition, creating wireframes, and conducting user testing. Below will take you on a journey of each step produced.

User Testing

A total of 5 users participated were asked to participate in a user test. This was conducted by providing a Google Survey Form on their participants device that contained all the steps and questions while testing the product on my personal device. As they ran through the test, I was off to the side taking notes and assisting them if needed.

Test Results

Out of all the participants for this test, user 2 (Nick) had to most detailed responses diving into the overall idea, design elements, and usability of the product. Some of the main key points involved adding elements/information that would give users more of a positive experience, the instances in which he'd use the product, and how the product could be beneficial to others.

5

Conclusion

Overall, this product could help increase the efficiency of traveling by giving users a new form of direction. It is merely a concept and has a lot of room for potential since VR technology is growing substantially fast.
